Past to Present

A young Kevin Brown, already looking up.
When Kevin Brown was at the bottom of a ditch, there was a 1,000 pound motorcycle crushing his neck and it was suffocating him. Unable to breathe, he felt himself blacking out, and he knew he'd never again see his wife, Brenda. In fact, he'd never again do anything, except die.

With literally his last breath, he sent a last plea into the void, and an answer came.

A very real voice from above said, "What can I do?" Again the voice repeated, a little louder this time, "What can I do?"

Kevin's savior was a 74-year-old retired farmer named J. P. Childers. After lifting the motorcycle off Kevin's neck, Childers went for help, then returned to wait with Kevin until the ambulance arrived.

Kevin E. Brown, in the hospital.
Following a life flight helicopter ride to Columbia, Missouri, Kevin was treated at Boone Hospital Center. There his doctors told him he was a quadriplegic--he'd never work, never feed himself or see to any of his other personal needs; they told him and his wife, Brenda, they would never have children. In fact, they specialized in "you'll nevers."

Today, years later Kevin is in a wheelchair, but he's learned that life isn't about walking, it's about doing. Kevin and Brenda are still married. Kevin is living his dream as a professional speaker, author, wheelchair athlete and primary care giver for Lauren, their daughter who some said they could never have.
